We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our dynamic Software Development team. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Microsoft technologies, with a focus on .NET / C# / SQL, and the ability to work independently while guiding others. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining new applications, while also supporting and updating legacy systems built on ASP.NET MVC.
This position requires working on-site in our Portsmouth, NH office 4 days per week, with the potential option to work remotely 1 day per week.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze, design, develop, test, and support new and existing web applications and reports using .NET, C#, and SQL Server.
Own the design and technical decisions for features and applications from requirements through deployment.
Develop and maintain APIs, backend services, and web applications leveraging modern .NET technologies.
Support and maintain legacy applications built with ASP.NET MVC as needed.
Create, deploy, and optimize SSRS reports to meet business requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver technical solutions.
Lead code reviews and drive continuous improvement of development processes.
Mentor other developers and share knowledge across the team.
Partner with leadership on technical planning, estimates, and priorities.
Ensure application security, scalability, and performance.
Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) to accelerate coding, unit testing, refactoring, and documentation, while reviewing and validating all AI-generated code before release.
Ensure AI-enabled features handle sensitive financial and payroll data securely and in accordance with company data-privacy policies.
Write and maintain unit and integration tests to support code quality and reliable releases.
Help modernize legacy ASP.NET MVC applications toward current .NET versions.
Tune the performance of SQL queries.
Provide clear and effective communication with colleagues and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in software development with a focus on .NET, .NET Core, C#, and Microsoft SQL Server.
Experience with Entity Framework and RESTful API development.
Proficiency in SQL Server: writing queries and stored procedures.
Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern web development practices.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) as part of daily development work.
Experience supporting and troubleshooting legacy ASP.NET MVC applications.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred/Bonus Qualifications
Experience with Blazor for building interactive web UIs.
Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., Azure).
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
Knowledge of financial or accounting systems.
Experience with Azure DevOps pipeline management.
Experience integrating LLM APIs (e.g., Azure OpenAI, Anthropic, Open Models) into .NET applications, including prompt design and response validation.
Familiarity with Microsoft Semantic Kernel or similar AI orchestration frameworks.
Experience migrating .NET Framework applications to modern .NET.
Experience with automated testing frameworks such as xUnit, NUnit, Playwright, or Selenium.
