Job description
The Senior Full-Stack Java Engineer will architect, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade applications while driving cloud modernization initiatives. This role bridges robust legacy architectures—including enterprise batch systems, server-side web platforms, and mainframe integrations—with cloud-native microservices on AWS. The ideal candidate pairs deep expertise in Java/Spring and Oracle database persistence with modern event-driven architectures, automated test pipelines, and AI-assisted development workflows.
Work Environment
Salary: $95-$100K
Role Type: Remote
Experience Level: 7 years Java experience, 3 years Full Stack experience
Program ContextBackground and Introduction
Customer Inquiry and Claims Response System (CICRS) is used by the indemnity claims process to provide customers with an efficient means of settling their claims and service refunds. Provides an efficient process for settling indemnity claims and service refunds for insured mail, improving customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
CICRS is designed to pay or deny indemnity claims against the Postal Service when there is loss or damage to insured articles in the mail stream. Once a claim is received into the CICRS system, the claim data is processed, and a determination is made to pay or deny the claim within 2 days.
Key Responsibilities
Full-Stack & Batch Engineering: Architect and deliver resilient RESTful APIs, batch processing services, and web user interfaces using Java, J2EE, Spring Framework, Hibernate, and established web frameworks (Struts, JSP, jQuery).
Cloud & Microservices Modernization: Deconstruct and migrate monolithic/legacy application components into event-driven microservices utilizing Kafka, Kubernetes, and AWS native services (EC2, ECS, SQS, ElastiCache, DynamoDB).
Mainframe Integration & Migration Strategy: Collaborate cross-functionally with mainframe engineers, enterprise architects, and Java teams to design data contracts, migration plans, and real-time/batch integration patterns.
Test Automation & Quality Engineering: Build and enforce comprehensive automated testing suites across the software lifecycle, utilizing Playwright for end-to-end and functional testing, alongside unit, regression, and performance frameworks.
DevOps & Continuous Delivery: Maintain and optimize CI/CD pipelines via Jenkins and Git; deploy and operate containerized applications across cloud infrastructure.
Modern Tooling & Productivity: Accelerate delivery velocity and maintain code consistency using cutting-edge developer tooling, specifically GitHub Copilot and VersionOne for Agile lifecycle management.
