About the role

Cogent Bytes is looking for a hands-on AWS DevOps Engineer to build, automate and run secure cloud platforms for our clients. Cogent Bytes is a London consultancy that designs, builds and runs platforms on AWS, with data and AI built in where they add value.
You will own infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines and day-to-day operations for containerised and event-driven systems. You will work closely with our architects and client engineering teams, from first design through to production support.

Key responsibilities

• Infrastructure as code: design, build and maintain AWS infrastructure with Terraform, using reusable modules, remote state and peer-reviewed changes.
• CI/CD pipelines: build and improve automated build, test and deployment pipelines (GitHub Actions or AWS CodePipeline), including safe rollouts and rollbacks.
• Containers and compute: run containerised services on Amazon ECS and Fargate, with ECR, load balancing, autoscaling and Lambda where it fits.
• Event-driven and data services: provision and operate SQS, SNS, Kinesis, RDS PostgreSQL, ElastiCache and S3 for high-volume and real-time workloads.
• Security and access: apply least-privilege IAM, AWS Organizations and multi-account structures, secrets management, encryption with KMS, and keyless CI access through OpenID Connect.
• Monitoring and reliability: set up logging, metrics, alarms and dashboards in CloudWatch, support incident response and root-cause analysis, and keep runbooks up to date.
• Resilience: implement backups, disaster recovery and multi-AZ or multi-region designs to agreed recovery targets.
• Cost management: track and reduce AWS spend through right-sizing, budgets and alerts, and tagging standards.
• Collaboration: work with developers and client teams on environment setup, release planning and production readiness, and document what you build.
• Continuous improvement: automate repetitive operational work and keep platforms patched and aligned with the AWS Well-Architected Framework.

Pay: £37,900.00-£55,000.00 per year
